Accessibility statement

What we build to

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Text and controls meet contrast requirements, every control can be reached and operated from the keyboard in a sensible order, focus is always visible, and touch targets are large enough to use comfortably.

Reading the studio

• Every illustrated choice also exists as a plain written list with the same options.
• Headings, landmarks and form labels are structured for screen readers.
• Changes like saving, errors and progress are announced politely, not interruptively.
• Nothing relies on colour alone, and nothing relies on hearing or on speech.

Reading your book

The book proof can be read in two equally complete ways: as a book you turn, and as a continuous document of headings and text. The text reading includes the exact words of every page and a written description of every illustration, so the book can be understood and approved without seeing it.

If you are deaf or hard of hearing

• Nothing in this service requires a telephone call or a spoken recording.
• Video is welcome, including signed video. Signed and silent video is treated as meaningful input, not as a failed audio file.
• Automatic transcription does not interpret signing, facial expression or silent action. Where it is used at all, its output is always marked as unchecked until a person confirms it — and you can correct it or replace it with your own written description.
• If interpretation is needed, it is arranged only with a person you have explicitly authorised.

Comfort settings

Comfort settings are available to everyone, from every page, at any time, under “Comfort settings” in the header. They include simple steps, larger text, less movement, fewer choices at once, more explanation, linear book reading and lower visual detail.

They change presentation only. They never reduce your choices, the material you can supply, the editorial care taken with your book, or your right to approve it. You are never asked to disclose a disability, and we do not store one.

Getting help from someone you trust

Someone can sit with you and help you complete your story. Where a section was completed with assistance, that is recorded plainly. Approval is yours alone, and can only be given after you have reviewed the book yourself in whichever reading mode you prefer.

Known limitations

• Automatic speech transcription is not connected in this deployment. Transcripts are written by you or by Amy.
• HEIC/HEIF photos and MOV video are not accepted yet, because conversion has not been verified here. JPEG, PNG, WebP, MP4 and WebM are accepted.
